This page is dedicated to taking a closer look at Blake Fronstin's VW Jetta. The installation was completed by Dwayne Blackwood and Scott Buwalda for Blake, who at the time was a senior in high school in Boca Raton, FL. Blake was mentored in car audio competition, and at his introductory show (the 2000 Daytona Spring Break Nationals), Blake took first place honors, with the highest novice score of the entire event (out of approximately 100 cars). Blake competed for the remainder of that year. About two weeks before the 2000 IASCA World Finals, Blake's car was flooded in a torrential flash flood in Tallahassee, where he had just went away for his first year of college at Florida State. The system still played fine, so he headed for the world finals with high hopes, after winning everything that season. Tragedy struck at the world finals when the system stopped playing correctly; the entire left channel of the front stage stopped working. Blake only had four subwoofers, one 5 1/4" midrange and one tweeter playing. Blake went to the IASCA booth and told them what happened, and mentioned that he wanted to forfeit. Somehow, one of the IASCA officials convinced him to stay in the competition "for fun." So, with only the right channel playing, Blake competed, and received third place honors at the world finals level. Not a misprint...with only half his speakers playing, Blake still got 3rd place at the world finals. This is a testament to how good this car REALLY was.
After the finals we tore the car down to find that the amplifiers had been immersed in water during the flash flood. Leaf and tree particles were found inside the amplifier's heat sinks. All of the contacts on the boards were corroding. Blake dismantled the car and sold off the parts as scrap. Every now and again, we hear from Blake, and his interest to one day build another car.
