My passive X-over is done!

Postby Stormen on Thu Sep 20, 2007 3:08 am

Just got done with my passive x-over last night, and thought you wanted to see it :D

The filter is made with Duelund Coherent Audio components... The Lexan plate that the filter is mounted on is 90 cm long ;)

If you don't know what Duelund is you can read some tests here:

It is absolutely beautiful! For those of you that don't know what you're looking at, the passive crossover you see here cost more than an entire Alpine Status F#1 system. Carsten competes in the EMMA pure passive class in Denmark, for none other than Team Hybrids.

And how does it sound... It's so goooood.... It's so natural...

It's when you get to this level of X-overs you know why they sound so much better then running active!!!

Need to go to bed now... Need to sleep... So tired!!! Getting to old for only 5 hours sleep a night for 2 weeks straight....

WOW...VERY Well done, I just went and kicked a dent in my car for not being more like yours! "Why can't you just sit still and sound nice like everyone elses car? Nooo you gotta idle bad, shake , shimmy and be a general nuisance" I swear my car is female!

I was under the impression that you need to mount your inductors at right angles to each other.

It's the inductors you need to worry about. The magnetic flux from an inductor can induce a current in an inductor mounted close by if second inductor is mounted parallel with the first . By mounting on einducto perpendicular, the flux from one cannot indcue a current in the other, the flux lines just don't go in the right direction.

In most audio frequency crossovers I haven't seen an issue. I see way more problems with the inductors picking up power line noise.

Your right... But these inductors are cast in some kind of material (can't remeber the name) so they don't effect each other like normal aircoils.
The round things is inductors the ones that look like chocolate bars in each corner are caps and the ones tha looks like a pencil is resistors...
